Adam Kamani was the co-founder of fashion business PrettyLittleThing with his brother Umar which reported revenues of £181m in 2018. Now the 28-year-old fire-starter is aiming to sprinkle some magic on the real estate sector with his ambitious plans for the Kamani Property Group.
The avantgarde CEO took the reins of the family property investment portfolio in 2016 as it was ‘undervalued’. Having attending university in Sheffield and Miami, Kamani did a stint in New York evaluating the US property model. As a result, he decided to change the company’s direction in the UK and started investing in the old buildings they had accumulated. Refurbishments and developments of key sites, even old carparks, into prime commercial and residential space’s around the city of Manchester, brought a fresh vision and renewed interest to the company. This is exactly what the Kamani family to do best – they create brands. From the £billion Boohoo.com fashion empire to this emerging property group they are now making waves in the real estate sector and people are starting to take notice.
Kamani has brought a youthful approach from his retail fashion experience to the real estate, utilising high tech, social media and short film to sell the properties. It’s clearly aimed at the Gen X & Y demographic and yet encompasses an inspirational message to the Gen Z consumer, prepping them as future buyers in the wings. Forget buying a bandeau dress on Instagram, Kamani’s audience are buying trendy flats from that very platform.
This savvy consumer led approach has meant fashion still plays a big part in the ethos of the firm. Suit and ties are a thing of the past in his office and are replaced with casual attire, namely sneakers and trend setting hoodies. Their creative is colourful, lifestyle led and unashamedly addictive, proven by their significant increase in revenues year on year since 2016 by x %.
Very much a team player, Kamani has grown his office from a team of five to now twenty four, clearly embracing the ‘hustle and graft’ family motto and has his sights set on big things in the world of property. It may be a far cry from his childhood, where he grew up in a house in Chorlton with 18 relatives under one roof but citing his über successful father as mentor and best friend, Kamani’s property formula is paying big dividends. With his ‘Kamani Can Do’ culture and optimism, don’t be surprised if you see Adam red carpet hopping in Los Angles, yet darting round derelict buildings in Manchester. If the first few years at the helm are anything to go by, Kamani’s 2020 property vision will not disappoint. He is intuitive, creative and well connected (from the Kardashians to the xxx, he knows them all). With an abundance of new projects and a ‘concept destination’ for Manchester well under way, life is anything but dull. Kamani is well on his way to being the millenial’s answer to Richard Branson – from game changing retailer to mega realtor – what this space.
